Pro Bowler Scott Player's pro career began in 1995 when he played for Birmingham in the Canadian Football League after attending an ELITE Regional Combine in 1993. He was signed as a free agent by the Cardinals in 1996 but was waived during preseason. He was allocated to NFL Europe in 1997 by the Giants and had brief stints with the Giants and Jets in the fall of 1997 and workouts during the 1997 season with Miami, St. Louis, Washington and Tampa Bay before being re-signed by Cardinals on March 3, 1998.

As an NFL rookie in 1998, Scott punted 81 times for 3,378 yards, rankings 11th in NFC in gross average (41.7 yards) and 10th in net average (35.9 yards).

Player is entering his seventh NFL season in 2004. Last season Scott punted 82 times for 3,511 yards, good for a 42.8-yard gross mark and 34.4-yard net average. He dropped 19 punts inside the 20-yard line and recorded nine touchbacks.

After being voted as a second alternate to the 1999 NFC Pro-Bowl team, Scott made the NFC Pro Bowl squad in 2000. His 44.2-yard gross and 37.3-yard net averages ranked second in NFC and he had just five touchbacks on 65 punts with 17 punts inside-the-20 yard line.
