Carl’s NFL career began a few weeks after he attended an ELITE Regional Combine when the Indianapolis Colts selected him in the 5th round of the 1997 NFL draft. As a rookie he saw action in the Colts final 11 games and ranked tied for 1st on the club in special teams tackles with 14.
From 1997-2002, Carl played in 45 games for the Colts, Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears and Washington Redskins.
Carl signed with the Cincinnati Bengals and new coach Marvin Lewis on March 3, 2003 as an unrestricted free-agent after a career year in 2002 with the Washington Reskins in which he recorded career highs in tackles (32), solo tackles (19) and sacks (3).
Carl started 3 games at LDE for the Bengals last season and played in all 16 games. He totaled 31 tackles (15 solo), with 1 pass defensed, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery and 0.5 sack.
