ELITE Combine alumnus Adam Vinatieri has been signed by the Indianapolis Colts to take over their placekicking duties after ten very successful seasons in New England. The undisclosed contract value is believed to be the richest ever for a kicker.
As a Patriot, Vinatieri earned the label as the best clutch kicker in NFL history. Vinatieri kicked a 48-yard FG as time expired in Super Bowl XXXVI to clinch the Patriots 20-17 victory over the heavily favored Rams and then two years later made a 41-yard kick with four seconds remaining in Super Bowl XXXVIII that gave the Patriots a thrilling 32-29 victory over the Carolina Panthers.
Last season, Vinatieri made 20 of 25 field goals and 40 of 41 extra points. For his career he is 263 of 321 on field goals (82%) and 367 of 374 on extra points (98%). He has been selected to the Pro Bowl twice, in 2002 and again in 2005.
Vinatieri attended ELITE Combines in 1995 and began his pro career in NFL Europe before signing as a free-agent with the New England Patriots in 1996.
