Career Notes

Chris' first pro contract came one month after attending an ELITE Regional Combine in 1999 when the Browns signed him as an undrafted rookie free-agent. He spent the preseason with Cleveland Browns, playing in three games and averaging 43.7 yards on 10 punts (53 long, 4 In20, 0 TB). After being waived by the Browns that August he signed with Green Bay Packers and played in Green Bay's season opener against Oakland and had four punts for a 39.3-yard average (44 long). The Packers waived him on Sept. 14 after they signed veteran Louie Aguiar.

The Dolphins signed Chris in 2000 and allocated him to NFL Europe for game experience. He took advantage of the opportunity and punted 50 times for the Barcelona Dragons, averaging 42.8-yards, with 16 inside the 20 and only two touchbacks. Unfortunately he suffered a torn ACL in his right (non-kicking) knee in the team's season finale while kicking off and was placed on injured reserve by Dolphins on July 21 and missed entire 2000 NFL season. When the Dolphins cut him during their 2001 training camp, the Jaguars claimed him off waivers.

Chris was the Jaguars surprise player of 2001. After being claimed off waivers, he beat out a 5th round draft pick for the punting job and then finished 4th in the NFL in net punting average (37.1 yds) and 6th in gross average (43.6 yds).

In 2002, Chris earned his first Pro Bowl birth as he led the AFC in both gross punting (44.2) and net punting (37.6) and had the most punts downed inside the 20 (18). Chris returns as the Jaguars punter in 2004 after missing most of the 2003 season with a leg injury.

Prior to the 2001 season, Chris spent time with the Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins and Barcelona in NFL Europe.
