Knorr Named AFC ST POTW

Knorr Earns AFC Player of the Week Honors

Micah Knorr earned AFC Player of the Week honors for his performance against the Chiefs.
September 16, 2004 - ELITE alumnus and Broncos Punter Micah Knorr was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for the first week of the NFL season. In the Bronco's 34-24 victory against the Chiefs, Knorr boomed six touchbacks and permitted Kansas City's Pro Bowl returner Dante Hall only one kickoff return for 17 yards. Knorr also punted twice for a 56.5 average with a long of 66 and one inside the 20. The six touchbacks were the most in one game by a Denver player since Rich Karlis planted six at home against the Chiefs in 1983. Thanks in part to Knorr's kickoffs and punts, nine of Kansas City's 12 possessions began inside the Chiefs' 25-yard line.

After a successful college career at Utah State, Knorr was out of football completely from 1997-1999 as he pursued a career away from the field. Then, in 1999, he decided to give the NFL a shot. After training and attending ELITE Combines in February of 2000 he was able to impress the Cowboys enough to sign him to a free-agent contract on April 20, 2000. He won a battle in training camp and burst onto the NFL scene, finishing fourth in the NFC and 11th in the NFL with a Dallas Cowboy rookie record 42.8 yard gross punting average. He followed that up in 2001 with a 40.2 yard average on 78 punts. Knorr has been the Broncos punter since 2002.
