ELITE Alumnus David Patten Signs for $13M with Redskins

WR David Patten is taking his three Super Bowl rings to Washington.
March 8, 2005 - After earning three Super Bowl rings with the New England Patriots, ELITE alumnus David Patten has agreed to five year, $13 million contract with the Washington Redskins. The deal includes a $3.5 million signing bonus.

Last season Patten caught 44 passes for 800 yards and a career-high seven touchdowns for the Super Bowl champion Patriots. His 18.2 yards per catch was also a career-high. During his four seasons in New England Patten tallied 165 receptions for 2,513 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Patten’s pro career traces back to 1996 and the Arena Football League. Not drafted out of Western Carolina in 1995, Patten spent a year out of football before attending ELITE Combines in 1996 and landing a contract with the Albany Firebirds. After one season in the AFL he began his NFL career by signing with the New York Giants in 1997. He spent three seasons with the New York Giants (1997-1999) and one with the Cleveland Browns (2000) before joining the Patriots in 2001.
