ELITE Alumnus Carl Powell Re-signs with Bengals

DE Carl Powell recorded his first career INT last season to clinch a win over the Giants.
April 6, 2005 - The Cincinnati Bengals have re-signed ELITE Alumnus DE Carl Powell. The Bengals signed the 31-year-old Powell, the first free-agent Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis brought to the club when he arrived in 2003, to a new one-year deal.

The versatile Powell can play both end and tackle. Powell fought through a knee injury sustained in last seasons second game and missed six games, but still produced 34 tackles, two sacks, and his first career interception of a Geathers tip that locked up the late-season 23-22 win over the Giants. Powell's career stats include 66 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and 1 INT.

Powell attended ELITE Combines in April 1997. His NFL career began a few weeks later when the Indianapolis Colts selected him in the 5th round of the 1997 NFL draft. As a rookie he saw action in the Colts final 11 games and ranked tied for 1st on the club in special teams tackles with 14. In his eight year career Powell has played for the Colts, Ravens, Bears, Redskins and Bengals.
